Summary
One of the most loved and respected of the Scottish regiments, the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders have an impressive history stretching back to 1794. The regiment is famed for its involvement in the Battle of Balaklava during the Crimeran War, where the saying ‘The Thin Red Line’ was first used to describe their incredible defence of the city against Russian calvary. The battle is still recognised today by the plain red and white dicing worn on the cap band of the ASHR Glengarry bonnets, the only regiment authorised to display such colours.
